Daypro Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Oxaprozin

Oxaprozin is in a class of drugs known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by reducing hormones that may cause inflammation and also pain in the body. It reduces fever and helps relieve the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and other conditions that are associated with inflammation.

Daypro Dosage

• For Rheumatoid Arthritis, the usual daily dose is 1200 milligrams (two 600-milligram caplets) once a day.
• For Osteoarthritis, the usual starting dose for moderate to severe osteoarthritis is 1200 milligrams (two 600-milligram caplets) once a day.

Uses of Daypro

• Oxaprozin is used to reduce the pain, inflammation, and stiffness caused by rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
• Oxaprozin may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Daypro

If you are taking this medication, then discuss the side effects with your doctor. If you feel any change in intensity, then you should tell your doctor. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe to continue using Daypro. Side effects may include:

• Anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction)

Warnings and precautions before taking Daypro:

• If you have kidney or liver disease, then you should use Daypro with caution.
• Daypro can prolong bleeding time. If you are taking a blood-thinning medication, then you should use Daypro with caution.
• Daypro can also increase water retention. So use with caution if you have heart disease or high blood pressure.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking certain drugs with Daypro, then it may decreased, increased or altered the effects of Daypro medicine. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Daypro with the following:

• Aspirin
  
• Beta-blocking blood pressure medications such as Inderal and Tenormin
  
• Blood thinners such as Coumadin
  
• Digitalis and digoxin (Lanoxin)
  
• Diuretics such as Lasix and Midamor
  
• Lithium (Lithonate)
  
• Ulcer drugs such as Tagamet and Zantac

Overdose

When you are taking Daypro, and you feel that overdose is suspected then contact your doctor immediately. Symptoms of an Daypro overdose may include:-

• Coma
• drowsiness
• fatigue
• nausea
• pain in the stomach
• stomach and intestinal bleeding
• vomiting
