Inderide Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Inderal (Propranolol hydrochloride), Hydrochlorothiazide

Propranolol is in a class of drugs known as beta-blockers. Propranolol is used to lower blood pressure, lower heart rate, reduce angina such as chest pain, and reduce the risk of recurrent heart attacks. It is a thiazide diuretic (water pill). It helps to lower your blood pressure and decrease edema (swelling) by increasing the amount of salt and water you lose in your urine.

Inderide Dosage

  • The usual dose is one Inderide tablet, 2 times per day.
  • The safety and effectiveness of Inderide in children have not been established.

Uses of Inderide

  • Hydrochlorothiazide and propranolol is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
  • It may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Inderide

If you are taking this medication, then discuss the side effects with your doctor. If you feel any change in intensity, then you should tell your doctor. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe to continue using Inderide. Side effects may include:

  • Allergic reactions
  • blood disorders
  • congestive heart failure
  • inflammation of the pancreas
  • depression
  • light-headedness
  • low blood pressure
  • nausea
  • slow heartbeat
  • vomiting

Warnings and precautions before taking Inderide:

  • You should not be stopped Inderide suddenly. Because this can cause chest pain and even heart attack. So dosage should be gradually reduced.
  • Diuretics may also cause your body to lose too much potassium. Signs of an excessively low potassium level include muscle weakness and rapid or irregular heartbeat. So to boost your potassium level, your doctor may recommend eating potassium-rich foods or taking a potassium supplement.
  • If you have asthma, seasonal allergies or other bronchial conditions, or kidney or liver disease, then your doctor will prescribe Inderide with caution.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking certain drugs with Inderide, then it may decreased, increased or altered the effects of Inderide medicine. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Inderide with the following:

  • ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone)
  • Chlorpromazine (Thorazine)
  • Digitalis (Lanoxin)
  • Epinephrine (EpiPen)
  • Haloperidol (Haldol)
  • Insulin
  • Lidocaine (Xylocaine)
  • Norepinephrine (Levophed)
  • Oral diabetes drugs such as Micronase
  • Phenytoin (Dilantin)
  • Rifampin (Rifadin)
  • Thyroid medications such as Synthroid
Overdose

When you are taking Inderide, and you feel that overdose is suspected then contact your doctor immediately. Symptoms of an Inderide overdose may include:-

  • irregular heartbeat
  • seizures
  • confusion
  • fainting
  • coma
  • shortness of breath
  • wheezing
