Bryonia

Bryonia is derived from the roots of wild hops grown in central and southern Europe. Bryonia was used by the Romans to treat coughs and wounds.

Treatment Use

Bryonia is useful when any of the following are indicated:

Mental and emotional aspects

  • Anger, irritability and restlessness
  • It Poor memory
  • Fear of death.
  • Prefers to be left alone, particularly when unwell.

Physical aspects

  • Headaches with a bursting or splitting sensation
  • Arthritis and rheumatism
  • Dry eyes and lips
  • Very dry and sore throat
  • Dry, irritating cough
  • Constipation
  • Influenza
  • Pneumonia
  • Pleurisy with severe chest pain
  • Colic.

Modalities

  • Better: for rest and stillness; a cold environment.
  • Worse: with any kind of movement; cold winds.

Treatment Tips

Best used when there is pain on the slightest movement. Most effective when colds are accompanied by a strong thirst and a very dry throat.
