Mavik Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Trandolapril

TRANDOLAPRIL (Mavik®) is an antihypertensive known as an ACE inhibitor. Trandolapril controls high blood pressure (hypertension) by relaxing blood vessels; it is not a cure. It is effective when used alone or combined with other high blood pressure medications such as diuretics that help rid the body of excess water. It is also used to treat heart failure or dysfunction following a heart attack. It works by decreasing certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels, so blood flows more smoothly and the heart can pump blood more efficiently.

Mavik Dosage

  • For High Blood Pressure, the usual starting dose if you are not taking a diuretic is 1 milligram once a day; African-Americans should start on 2 milligrams once a day.
  • For Treatment After Heart Attack, the usual starting dose is 1 milligram once a day. The doctor will gradually increase the dose up to a maximum of 4 milligrams once a day.
