Relafen Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Nabumetone

NABUMETONE (Relafen®) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It helps relieve pain and inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Relafen works by reducing hormones that may cause swelling and pain in the body. This medication also relieves pain and reduces fever.

Relafen Dosage

  • The usual starting dose is 1000 milligrams taken as a single dose. Dosage may be increased up to 2000 milligrams per day, taken once or twice a day.
  • The safety and effectiveness of this drug in children have not been established.

Uses of Relafen

  • Relafen is used to treat the symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
  • It may also be used for other conditions those are listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Relafen

If you are taking this medication, then discuss the side effects with your doctor. If you feel any change in intensity, then you should tell your doctor. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe to continue using Relafen. Side effects may include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • constipation
  • diarrhea
  • dizziness
  • fluid retention
  • gas
  • headache
  • indigestion
  • itching
  • nausea
  • rash
  • ringing in ears

Warnings and precautions before taking Relafen:

  • Stomach and intestinal ulcers can occur without warning. So remember to get regular checkups.
  • Make sure the doctor knows if you have kidney or liver disease. You should be used Relafen with caution.
  • This drug can cause fluid retention and swelling. So you should be used with caution if you have congestive heart failure or high blood pressure.
  • It may also cause increased sensitivity to sunlight.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking certain drugs with Relafen, then it may decreased, increased or altered the effects of Relafen medicine. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Relafen with blood-thinning drugs such as Coumadin and aspirin.

Overdose

When you are taking Relafen, and you feel that overdose is suspected then contact your doctor immediately. Symptoms of a Relafen overdose include:-

  • lack of energy
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • stomach pain
