Ocuflox Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Ofloxacin

OFLOXACIN (Ocuflox®) is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. Ofloxacin kills certain bacteria or stops their growth. It treats conjunctivitis that may caused by these bacteria. Generic ofloxacin eye solution is available. This medication is used to treat eye infections. This medication only treats bacterial eye infections. It will not work for other types of eye infections. Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.

Ocuflox Dosage

  • For eye inflammation, apply 1 or 2 drops every 2 to 4 hours for the first 2 days, then 4 times daily for the next five days.
  • For orneal ulcers, for the first 2 days, apply 1 or 2 drops to the affected eye every 30 minutes while awake and also get up 4 to 6 hours after retiring and apply 1 or 2 drops. On days 3 through 7 to 9, apply 1 or 2 drops hourly while awake. From days 7 to 9 onward, apply 1 or 2 drops 4 times a day.

Uses of Ocuflox

  • Ofloxacin ophthalmic is used to treat bacterial infections of the eyes.

Side Effects of Ocuflox

If you are taking this medication, then discuss the side effects with your doctor. If you feel any change in intensity, then you should tell your doctor. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe to continue using Ocuflox. Side effects may include:

  • Allergic reaction
  • blurred vision
  • dizziness
  • dry eye
  • eye pain
  • feeling of a foreign body in the eye
  • inflammation
  • itching
  • nausea
  • redness
  • sensitivity to light
  • stinging
  • swelling of the eye or face
  • tearing

Warnings and precautions before taking Ocuflox:

  • Before using ofloxacin, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other quinolones including such as ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin; preservatives including such as benzalkonium chloride; or if you have any other allergies.
  • Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially if you have other eye problems.
  • You should be used caution engaging in activities requiring clear vision such as driving or using machinery because your vision may be temporarily blurred or unstable after applying this drug.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking certain drugs with Ocuflox, then it may decreased, increased or altered the effects of Ocuflox medicine. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Ocuflox with the following:-

  • Caffeine
  • Cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune)
  • Theophylline (Theo-Dur)
  • Warfarin (Coumadin)
Overdose

An overdose of this medication is unlikely to occur. If you do suspect an overdose, wash the eye with water and call an emergency room or poison control center near you. If the drops have been ingested, drink plenty of fluid and call an emergency center for advice.
