Gelsemium

Gelsemium is derived from the yellow jasmine plant.

Treatment Use

Gelsemium is useful when any of the following are indicated:

Mental and emotional aspects

  • Fears and phobias when accompanied by shaking and trembling
  • Fear of dentists and doctors being left alone
  • Anxiety about forthcoming events, such as meetings
  • Drowsiness and confusion
  • Panic attacks Dislike of insects and creatures that creep and crawl
  • Difficulty in sleeping.

Physical aspects

  • Influenza
  • Sore throat with red tonsils
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Fatigue, exhaustion and drowsiness
  • Coughs and colds
  • Shivering
  • Sneezing with a hot and flushed face
  • Sore, inflamed eyes
  • Migraine and headaches, in particular at the base of the skull or the back of the head
  • Weakness and heaviness in the extremities
  • Diarrhea that is made worse when anxious.

Modalities

  • Better: for rest and stillness; after going to the toilet.
  • Worse: for cold, damp weather.

Treatment Tips

The main remedy for influenza. Also excellent for coughs, colds and sore throats, particularly if accompanied by shivering and fever.
