Pulsatilla

Pulsatilla is derived from the pulsatilla plant, which is native to Scandinavia, Denmark, Germany and Russia. The fresh plant in flower is used.

Treatment Use

Pulsatilla is useful when any of the following are indicated:

Mental and emotional aspects

  • Tendency to burst into tears without warning
  • Quiet temperament
  • Suppression of fear
  • Depression
  • Obsessive-compulsive behavior
  • Fear of the opposite sex
  • Fear of the dark and ghosts
  • Very tearful when grieving
  • Bulimia.

Physical aspects

  • Coughs and Colds
  • Runny nose
  • Catarrh
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Digestive problems
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • All menstrual and menopausal problems, particularly if accompanied by depression
  • Lower back pain
  • Headaches
  • Styes
  • Skin problems
  • Arthritis

Modalities

  • Better: for crying and sympathy; cool, fresh air; gentle exercise.
  • Worse: for heat; for rich or fatty foods.
