Ruta Grav.

Ruta grav. is derived from the Ruta graveolens herb. The juice from the whole plant is used, before the plant flowers.

Treatment Use

Ruta grav. is useful when any of the following are indicated:

Mental and emotional aspects

• Low personal satisfaction
• Depression
• Critical of others and self
• Anxiety

Physical aspects

• Aches and pains in bones and muscles
• Deep, aching pain
• Arthritis and rheumatism
• Lower back pain, where the pain feels deep and penetrating
• Repetitive strain injury
• Injuries to ligaments, tendons and cartilage
• Sciatic pain
• Chest and rib pain caused by coughing
• Eye strain and exhaustion from overwork
• Headaches, in particular from reading
• Constipation.

Modalities

• Better: for movement.
• Worse: for cold, damp weather; lying down.

Treatment Tips

This remedy acts upon the periosteum (the lining of the bone) and cartilage, so it is excellent for injuries to gliding joints such as the ankle and wrist. This remedy is also the first choice for repetitive strain injury - an inflammation of the tendon sheaths of the arm and wrist.
