Skin problems often reflect what is happening inside the body. Acne normally appears at adolescence and is believed to be caused by hormonal imbalances which produce too much of the oily substance in the skin known as sebum.

Avocado may be rich in fatty oils but it also contains plenty of vitamins A, C, E and B complex, which are all essential for good skin. It has strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, so it is excellent for acne or any other irritating skin conditions. Make up a paste of avocado pulp and apply to any dry skin rashes to soothe and moisturise.

Make a paste of salt in vinegar. Rub it on the pimples. Wash it off after 20-30 minutes with lukewarm water.

Grate some horseradish, which is rich in sulphur, and infuse it in hot milk for half an hour. Strain it and use the liquid as a face wash. You can also leave a teaspoon of the grated root to dissolve in a cupful of cider vinegar for a week and use it in the same way. It will sting badly but works a treat.

Mix 1 tablespoon groundnut oil with 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice to prevent formation of blackheads and pimples .

Clove based face mask or a paste of Fenugreek (Methi) leaves applied overnight on acne and washed off next morning.

Apply ripe tomatoes pulp on acne pimples and keep upto 1 hour, then wash.
