Home Remedies For Sore Throat

For a bad sore throat, make up a gargle with either salt, lemon juice or cider vinegar diluted with warm water. The salt helps to destroy the bacteria that cause the sore throat and helps to relieve the burning sensation. Squeeze the oil of a whole garlic clove together with cayenne pepper and warm salt water and soak a clean cloth around the throat for instant relief. Gargling with plain salt water can also be soothing.

Echinacea acts as a natural antibiotic by boosting the body's immune system and fighting infection and illness. Garlic and onions relieve congestion and infections by reducing the amount of mucus in the nasal cavities.

Blackcurrants also counter infection and inflammation. Try a spoonful crushed into a cupful of boiling water and left to infuse for ten minutes - sip the drink slowly and chew the fruit. Red sage is the most famous remedy for sore throat - a tea made from the herb and drunk with a dash of cider vinegar will work wonders.

There is also a variety of teas and tisanes that help the immune system fight back. Some of the best remedies include hyssop, a member of the mint family. Lemon, which contains vitamin C, and any tea that contains antioxidants will also help rid the body of free radicals which damage the cells in the body.
