Home Remedies For Lumbago

About 80 per cent of us will have some form of back pain at some time in our lives. Many people suffer in silence for years because they know there simply is no cure. Rest and warmth provide some comfort, but there is also a variety of remedies, particularly poultices, that can be applied to ease the pain - even if only temporarily. With any sort of back pain it is always best to consult a doctor.

Home remedies for Lumbago

Massage is an excellent remedy for most kinds of back problem. Make up a soothing massage oil from peppermint or coriander oil in a tablespoon of almond oil. Massage it well into the muscles of the back.

Lumbago is a rheumatic pain in the lower region of the back and can be treated with similar remedies to those given for arthritis. Some poultices may also be helpful. Cook up whole oats, then mash them with vinegar and apply them to the painful area as hot as possible.

Boil up cabbage leaves in milk until they become a jelly, spread this mixture on the affected area with a cloth and leave it on overnight, covered with gauze held in place with plaster. This helps to release toxins from the body and, although it may not endear you to your bed partner, you will feel rested after a good night's sleep!

Shake together a cup of vinegar and turpentine and add a dessertspoon of powdered camphor and a whole egg. Keep the mixture refrigerated and use as a back rub when necessary.
